I remember watching a design show on television about 20 years ago, and a couple was trying to decide what their style was. The wife said she likes eclectic and the husband said he liked contemporary. It was up to the designer to create a space they would both find beautiful. They were puzzled about how she could merge the two completely different styles and she looked at them and said, “ Surround yourselves with things you love and it will be lovely.” As I have both created and instructed art, I have found myself reciting that line many times. It doesn’t matter if it’s within the lines, by the book, or matches your sofa, if the piece speaks to you and evokes emotion, it’s meant to be.

Sometimes the perfect piece is sitting in a collection at a studio or on a gallery wall, and sometimes it is commissioned by your heart and soul.

Dream it.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you’re looking for the perfect piece of art to match the perfect sofa. Or perhaps you have been inspired by another piece of art that was the wrong size or color. Or maybe you want to capture the perfect memory, moment, or loved one on canvas.

Although you can’t quite put a price on a dream, we will have to set a budget that you feel comfortable with. Elements that help to determine price are size, materials, timeframe, and working conditions (murals).

Design it.

I will ask you to tell me your likes and dislikes and a color palette. I will create images from that list. From those images, I’ll ask you to mark what you like and dislike about each and every one of them. This helps us to be on the same page because your idea of abstract and whimsical might be a little different from mine.
